Imagination at Work
GE's motto is 'imagination at work'. This was the key element in the design approach for Architects Woods Bagot in the creation of a modern and energized work environment for the firm's first Queensland headquarters.
Coming from multiple locations in Brisbane, the brief was to create a single headquarters with a unified workplace. Woods Bagot created four key planning zones to accommodate all of the work styles required within the firm. A social hub in the centre of the work zones include collaborative spaces, quiet rooms, meeting rooms, a call centre and tea points.
“We focused on creating an environment that provides clarity, allowing for the culmination of ideas and the gathering of its people,” said Woods Bagot Principal and Workplace Consulting Leader, Amanda Stanaway.
A vibrant workspace with a rich diversity of spaces must also be aesthetically enjoyable to make it a harmonious place to work. The personal workspaces are functional and more neutral while communal areas have strong visual areas to stimulate creativity, innovation and collaboration.
The use of uplifting colours like strong greens, oranges and yellows inspire vibrancy while darker tones such as soft greys and even black create a space conducive to relaxation.
In the work spaces, grey commercial carpet tiles were used to create a cohesive work environment. For the social hub, the heart of this design, Godfrey Hirst used designer jet print to custom create a commercial carpet with a geometric pattern in bright green hues referencing the “golf green” concept that emerged from the collaborative GE staff workshops.
