The Block NZ: Kitchen and Dining Room Reveals

Kitchen and Dining week proved frustrating for some Blockheads, but we loved how they all chose different hard flooring. This week was a great example of how your interior choices for each space should start with your floor.

Top tip:
Once you have chosen your flooring, let the timber tones influence your choices for other features in the room. The dining table, a pendant light or cabinetry will help bring the space together.

Sam and Emmett

Sam and Emmett won this week with their New York loft-style (I think that's what we say for small?) kitchen and dining room. Stunning choice of floors, we love the rich colour of this laminate flooring in Heritage Brown. The dark timber tones contrast beautifully against the white cupboards, subway tiles and walls and complement the open-style shelves and black appliances. And we LOVE that pendant light.

Dyls and Dylz

Dyls and Dylz chose a lighter tone and timber flooring to create genuine warmth in their galley kitchen and dining. Teamed with the two-toned cupboards, sleek stone benchtops and strip lighting on the kick boards makes a simple and elegant space. We also loved sheer curtains and the bench table that ties in nicely with the timber floors.

Niki and Tiff

Niki and Tiff have chosen the stunning Regal Oak Handcrafted timber floors throughout their home and it suits their style perfectly. With the spectacular restored dining table with its imperfections, knots and grains the two pair perfectly. These stunning timber touches work well with the white cupboards and black features in the open shelf trim, matte splash back and taps. We LOVE those chairs.

Emma and Courtney

We loved their butler's pantry, the sky light and feature tile. We have to agree with the judges that the dining space let them down. A timber table would have made more of a feature of the stunning oak floors, the white table with hard edges with the black metal chairs made the dining space a little stark.
