A big congratulations goes out to Optus Stadium for winning Project of the Year at the Stadium Business Design & Development Awards in London.
The Stadium Business Design & Development Awards were launched to recognise leadership, innovation and achievement in the design, development, construction and refurbishment of major sports venue facilities globally. 2018 winners were announced during the Stadium Business Design & Development Summit 2018 (13-14 Nov, London).
A big congratulations goes out to Optus Stadium for winning Project of the Year at these awards. This award is for a completed new build or expansion, modernisation or major capital enhancement project of an existing venue that has delivered on all its goals and more.
Optus Stadium only took 18 months to construct, coming in several months ahead of schedule and on-budget. Officially opening its doors on 21st of January 2018, the stadium was designed and operated with a specific fans-first focus. Judges were impressed with this approach to the build and believe Optus Stadium is a wonderful new asset for Australia and the people of Perth.

An award winning project on home soil
Continuing the success, on Thursday the 1st of November the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA) National Awards were held in Melbourne. These awards recognise and celebrate outstanding achievements and excellence in architecture. Winning two shortlisted categories, Optus Stadium was awarded the Colourbond Award for Steel Architecture and the National Public Architecture Award. Designed by Hassell, Cox and HKS, Optus Stadium is said to be “a landmark project for the public that is changing the way fans experience sporting and entertainment events”, states Peter Dean, Principal at Hassell.
Godfrey Hirst is proud to have been a supplier to this outstanding venue, having supplied an array of custom carpets throughout various areas of the stadium including the River View Rooms, Victory Lounge, Black Swan Room, Cygnet Room, Coaches Room and Sports Lounge just to name a few.
Hassell Studio, Cox Architecture and the construction giant, Multiplex, worked closely with the dedicated team at Godfrey Hirst to ensure the project budget was adhered to and the design framework was limitless. Using Godfrey Hirst’s extensive product portfolio maximised the product specification in high impact areas such as the main function rooms, locker rooms and lounges but balanced the budget with cost effective, hard-wearing carpet tiles throughout the corridors, media and administration areas.
Congratulations to all involved in the design and construction of this iconic Australian project.
