To achieve this, we worked with our entire supply chain to identify, source and utilise healthier manufacturing ingredients. The entire chemical composition of the carpets were scrutinised to a threshold of 100-parts-per-million (100ppm); essentially creating a ‘nutrition’ label of ingredients. The result? A Declare™ Red List Free certification on all triexta, solution dyed nylon and wool carpets, the highest and best rating available for material health.&nbsp;

All our wool carpets have insect resistant treatments applied during manufacture. 

The treatment does not stop insects from entering your home and moths/ beetles can build up an immunity and in some areas have developed a tolerance to treatments. The insect deterrent treatment is embedded in the carpet fibre and needs to be ingested by the insect to have an effect and stop further spreading – such that some fibre loss may occur and good housekeeping is essential.

Our Australian history spans back to 1865, when the Victorian Woollen and Cloth Manufacturing Company began operations in Geelong, and was purchased in the 1890’s by Godfrey HIrst. Godfrey Hirst’s entrepreneurial skills and knowledge of the industry lead to the great success that was furthered even more so by the McKendrick family in the 1960s. In 2018, the Godfrey Hirst business was acquired by Mohawk Industries, the world’s largest flooring company, expanding its product offering and capabilities to a global scale.

As a prerequisite for the ECS program, carpet manufacturers must comply with the Code of Practice for Environmental Management (including performance criteria for raw materials, the manufacturing process, the carpet during its use and at the end of its life).
