Bringing the timeless beauty of nature to your floor

There is something about the enduring appeal of timber flooring that transcends eras and defies trends. Offering a warmly burnished finish, timber floors are a classic statement piece that can add real value to your home.

Authentic textures & unique grains

Godfrey Hirst timber floors are carefully crafted to highlight the natural variations in the knots and grains of the boards. No two planks of wood are alike, and this is the beauty of natural timber. Once installed, your timber floor is entirely unique.

Quality engineered timber construction

Featuring a hardwood top layer for strength and stability, engineered timber is more stable than traditional solid wood products. Each board contains design and engineering features with a multi-layer core construction, making it less prone to seasonal movement, cracking and warping. It is an excellent option for any new build or renovation. It can be installed over concrete and timber, floated or glued down.

Depth in colour & variation

The real timber surface brings the timeless beauty of nature to your floor. Godfrey Hirst engineered timber floors feature a hardwood top layer that is a genuine, resandable veneer of real timber. Embrace the depth of colour and beautiful variation that only natural timber can deliver. Be brave as variation is guaranteed.

Profiles

Using age old techniques and cutting edge technologies each board is crafted to create visually stunning results on your floor.

Edge types are the finished sides and end joints of each plank. The edge profiles are carefully crafted to add to the style of board and makes a big difference in the overall effect of how your floors look once installed.

  • Square Edge.

Square Edge hard flooring is made up of boards cut to exactly 90 degrees. Perpendicular square edges fit snugly together between one board and another. This creates a finish that is clean and super-sleek, perfect for minimalist and contemporary spaces.

  • Micro-Beveled Edge.

Micro-Beveled Edge hard flooring has a shallow V groove that accentuates each individual plank in a subtle way. This versatile edge style lends itself to both traditional and modern décors.

  • Distressed Edge.

Distressed edge hard flooring creates a vintage look and adds to the character of your floor by weathering the edges and creating definition between each plank. Uniquely distressed this profile style is perfect for rustic or high traffic interiors.

Within the realm of woodworking, there exist three captivating varieties of surface textures. These exquisite techniques involve embellishing the surfaces of wooden materials. Different processes can be used to either accentuate or reduce the visual impact of the tones and textures within the timber.

  • Smooth

Immerse yourself in the sleek and contemporary allure of smooth timber flooring. Its smooth finish creates a more uniform top surface appearance that beautifully showcases the colour. The rich tones of the wood shine through, allowing the grain to take the spotlight. This option is perfect for wood enthusiasts who appreciate its fine texture, as it provides a stunning backdrop for the natural knots and inherent character of the timber.

  • Brushed

Experience the captivating elegance of brushed wood flooring in your space. Our expert wire brushing technique creates a texture that is visually captivating and tactically pleasing. This process opens the surface grain structure, enhancing the colour contrast between each plank and adding subtle definition. Delicate yet resilient, this technique effortlessly conceals everyday wear and minor scratches, ensuring your floor maintains its exquisite appearance even after active use.

  • Vintage

Elevate your space with the timeless allure of vintage timber floors. Crafted using traditional hand techniques and tools like metal gouges, chisels, and planes, each plank embodies the authentic aesthetic of weathered wood. Meticulously hand-distressed, these floors exude refined aged texture while retaining a soft and inviting touch. The layered notes of character never go out of style, infusing any setting with a touch of rustic charm.

  • At Godfrey Hirst, we understand that each timber plank is truly one of a kind, with its own distinct characteristics, much like fingerprints. That’s why our curated timber ranges offer a diverse selection of looks and textures. When it comes to timber planks, embracing their natural personality is essential. These unique features enhance the individual character of each plank, adding a touch of beauty that sets it apart. By considering these characteristics, you can ensure that your chosen flooring not only looks fantastic but also perfectly aligns with your specific desires.

  • Cracks and Checks

You will come across gentle reminders of your timber floors previous journey through nature, in the form of subtle cracks and checks. These unique markings can be caused by temperature, dry or humid conditions or high winds. These cracks are generally filled with epoxy, or artfully restored in the case of our Vintage timbers.

  • Knots

Knots, circular or oval-shaped features in wood grain, bring a distinct charm to your floor. These natural markings occur when a branch emerges from the main trunk, creating a darker-coloured center. Open knots are filled with matching-coloured filler, seamlessly blending with the surrounding wood.

  • Medullary Rays

Medullary rays, delicate and white, are natural features found in quarter-sawn timber. They run across the growth rings, serving as nature’s way of transporting water and nutrients within the tree. These rays showcase the wood’s intricate inner structure and add a touch of elegance to each plank.

  • Sapwood

Gently nestled beneath the bark, the sapwood resides as the outermost layer of the tree trunk. It is characterised by its lighter colour compared to the older and darker heartwood, which resides in the inner layers. Experience the contrasting layers of wood, each with its own unique beauty.
