Backing Wool, Backing Shearing, Backing Jamie!

At Godfrey Hirst, wool is what we do - and with our wool yarn plant just around the corner in Dannevirke, we were proud to support Jamie Skiffington as he set out to bring the Solo 9hr Strong Wool Lamb record back to New Zealand. Taking on this epic challenge at Waewaepa Station, Jamie aimed to beat the current record of 872 lambs - last held in New Zealand by Dion King in 2007. This was the first attempt at the record on home soil since 2011, and what a battle it was!

The record wasn’t broken this time round, but that’s the sport of shearing - grit, determination, and a community that always shows its heart. Jamie gave it everything, and his journey isn’t over. Shearing takes serious skill and endurance, and we’re stoked to back young talent and the hardworking shearing industry that keeps wool going strong.

On to the next challenge, Jamie—we’ll be watching!
