Open Home with Josh & Matt

When it comes to injecting joy, colour and personality into a space, few do it quite like Josh & Matt. Known for their wildly creative interiors and viral design transformations, the dynamic Melbourne couple have opened the doors to their incredible home for our latest Open Home tour.

Originally built for a doctor, the home began with a clean and minimal foundation — a blank canvas just waiting for personality. Now, it’s been completely reimagined into a layered, expressive and deeply personal space. Think colour-drenched rooms, sculptural lighting, curated thrift finds and cheeky surprises at every turn.

In the living room, moody eggplant walls and a statement red velvet Togo sofa set the tone, layered with bold artwork, sculptural lighting and marble accents that create a space both dramatic and inviting. A large window displays views out to the lush, colour-filled garden — the perfect spot for a morning coffee and matcha, and a little bird watching. Beneath it all, Corsica Oak engineered timber in colour 310 Natural Oak Brushed runs underfoot, its natural variation and warm tones adding a grounded, organic feel to the expressive design. It’s a choice that not only brings cohesion across the home’s colourful rooms, but the natural materials that Josh & Matt have thoughtfully built into their space.

“It just helps create warmth, and because it’s engineered timber, every single panel is different, so it looks amazing. We each have our own favourite floorboard in this house.” – Josh, only half joking

That warmth continues in the dining room, where the same Corsica Oak boards pair with a vintage marble table, deep blue dining chairs, and a sculptural bar cart inspired by Indian Chhau dancers. A curated shelf of rotating globes and collected blue objects reflects the duo’s playful eye and their commitment to staying (mostly) within a more restrained palette.

“We challenged ourselves to not use every single colour… so yeah, we’ll see how that goes!” – Matt

Upstairs, their library is a rich, red-drenched retreat wrapped in saturated tones from ceiling to floor. Godfrey Hirst Inspirational triexta carpet in colour 670 Super Nova grounds the space and echoes the vivid walls. A glowing sculptural nose light adds a surreal, humorous twist, while mustard velvet seating brings in warmth and contrast.

Down the hall, what might usually be a simple passageway has been transformed into a true destination and gallery space. This vibrant hallway wraps around a window overlooking a serene pond and garden. Underfoot, the same Corsica Oak engineered timber runs throughout, and its warm, natural tones provide cohesion and accentuate the colourful surrounds. The installers even carved out channels beneath the stairs to house LED lighting. A giant pencil, sharpener and paintbrush, a ‘Mojo Jojo’ door, and a playful stack of mini sculptural chairs bring scale and whimsy to the gallery.

“I need to be banned from Facebook Marketplace.” – Josh

In the spare bedroom, things are still coming together, but they’ve made a start with Luxford triexta carpet in colour 450 Dusty Rose, bringing softness and warmth to the floor. Their main bedroom is already a fully formed haven. With sweeping views of the garden, a sage velvet bed, and a one-of-a-kind ‘Gorilla Chair’ made from many pieces of blue leather, the space is wrapped in rich texture. The Luxford carpet in colour 830 Blue Lake sets a calming foundation — and is soon to be matched by blue walls and ceiling in full colour-drenching style.

“If you love the carpet, then you’re going to love that colour on the walls and ceiling as well.” – Josh

The exterior has been just as thoughtfully transformed, shedding its original grey-and-white tones for a rich terracotta façade framed by a flourishing garden. There’s still more to come, they promise, but for now, this Open Home stands as a true reflection of their personalities and a testament to design that embraces colour, character, and a sense of fun.
