Our Social Impact: Local Legacy, Real Impact
As we celebrate 160 years of locally made, we honour not just our heritage - but our ongoing commitment to invest in the people and places where we operate and protect the environment. We take this responsibility seriously which is why it forms one of our three sustainability pillars.
Investing in Local Employment & Education opportunities
With over 1,000 employees across Australia and New Zealand we’re proud to support skilled and unskilled employment, creating opportunities where we live and work. Our impact reaches even further through long-standing partnerships with over 1,500 retail stores across both countries - positively supporting local economies, businesses, and families. We’re also proud of our various partnerships and collaborations with local business and community and educational organisations.
We’re committed to developing future talent through our graduate program, which provides local students with real-world employment pathways. Because we believe in building stronger communities, from the ground up.
Backed by Local Investment
With three Australian manufacturing facilities, four world-class production sites in New Zealand and distribution centres in major capital cities, we continue to invest in the infrastructure that keeps us proudly local.
Recent investments include:
- Significant investment in solar generation across almost all of our manufacturing sites and key distribution sites.
- A multi-million-dollar upgrade to our Victorian tile plant - delivering faster production, better efficiency, and packaging made from 100% recycled materials.
- An expansive yarn store supporting local carpet manufacturing - holding more than 4,800 tonnes of locally used yarn.
- Major upgrades in LED lighting and more efficient plant and equipment across our sites - driving smarter energy use and operational performance.
These aren’t just facilities. They’re proof of our long-term commitment to local production and supply chain excellence.
Continuous Improvement
Our philosophy is one of continuous improvement and that applies to our efforts to become a more sustainable business. That’s why we’ve set ourselves ambitious greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction goals. As of the end of 2024, we have:
- Reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 34% (since 2020).
- Installed 5,879 solar panels with a generation capacity of 2.37 MW, powering 60% of daytime electricity needs across most of our manufacturing sites.
- Added another 2,493 panels in 2024, with plans to meet our 2030 target of a 42% emissions reduction.
We’re committed to lowering our environmental impacts while delivering flooring solutions that support healthier, more sustainable homes.
Building a Safer & More Inclusive Workplace
As one of the largest employers in the local flooring industry, the safety and wellbeing of our workforce is a top priority. Through initiatives like our Zero Harm cultural change program, we’re strengthening safety culture and improving risk management across all sites.
We’re proud of our growing commitment to diversity and inclusion, with a significant number of women in key leadership roles across the business, including some of the most senior operational and management roles.
Beyond our workforce, we’re also focused on our supply chain and have adopted improved supplier due diligence practices in recent years. Each year we publish our Modern Slavery Statement, detailing those practices are our efforts to ensure ethical and sustainable working practices and conditions across our supply chain.
Because being Made for Living means creating opportunities for everyone to thrive.
Locally Made. Always Made for Living.
From our first mill in Geelong in 1865 to our modern manufacturing facilities and distribution centres across Australia and New Zealand, our mission remains the same: To create flooring that’s locally made, thoughtfully designed, and truly Made for Living while making a positive contribution to the people and places where we operate.
