Is Hybrid Flooring Waterproof?

Godfrey Hirst hybrid flooring is waterproof, so you can enjoy beautiful floors with peace of mind.

How does it compare to other flooring options?

Solid timber is not waterproof and may swell if exposed to moisture. Some laminate products can resist minor surface moisture but often has a core vulnerable to water damage.

Hybrid flooring features a waterproof core that is engineered to be inherently waterproof, made from a dense, non-porous material that does not absorb moisture. This solid construction forms a reliable barrier against water, meaning spills and humidity won’t seep through or cause damage. Its built-in waterproof properties help ensure long-lasting performance and stability, even in moisture-prone areas.

Uniclic® is a revolutionary watertight system for installing hybrid floors without using glue. The planks can be clicked together simply, thanks to the ingenious shape of the tongue and groove.

A waterproof coating is applied during the manufacturing process to create a sealed, waterproof surface layer. This specialised coating forms a protective barrier over the product, preventing moisture from penetrating the surface and helping to guard against spills, stains and everyday water exposure.

How does it perform in wet areas such as the bathroom?

Godfrey Hirst’s Metropol hybrid flooring range is now officially Codemark certified in Australia for use in internal wet areas like powder rooms, laundries, and bathrooms with enclosed shower areas.*

This certification is the result of rigorous laboratory testing and independent analysis that demonstrates not only that our products are impervious to moisture, but also that the Uniclic® locking systems are precision machined to ensure no moisture can penetrate the joints.

*Please refer to the Installation Instructions available on our website for full details of the requirements for installation of Metropol hybrid flooring in wet areas. Codemark certification relates to the certification of a ‘performance solution’ for the purposes of the Building Code of Australia comprising both hybrid flooring and perimeter sealing products as detailed in the Installation Instructions. Please note that Godfrey Hirst Metropol hybrid flooring is not suitable for installation in wet areas with floor wastes or falls to waste.
