What is an EPD?&nbsp; 
 EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is a multipage document describing the environmental impacts – in particular climate impacts – of a product based on a life cycle assessment (LCA). It is created by reference to a LCA based on the manufacturer’s processes for sourcing raw materials, manufacturing, transportation, use and disposal of the product, using internationally recognised standards like ISO 14025 and EN 15804. After a rigorous independent review process of the data, methods and conclusions, the EPD is submitted to a program operator for publication. As products and manufacturing processes evolve, the EPD is updated, usually every 5 years, for significant changes.


 A key component of a published EPD is the global warming potential (GWP) figure, expressed in kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent per unit (meter squared for flooring) or kg CO2-e / m2. A lower GWP figures means that the life cycle of the product, including its manufacture, have a lower contribution to global warming; whereas a high GWP figure means a greater contribution to global warming.


 For building products such as flooring, there is often a focus on the ‘embodied carbon’ in a product represented by the ‘A1 – A3’ component of the total GWP figure, being the greenhouse gas emissions associated with raw materials, transport and manufacturing.


 An EPD serves to provide valuable transparency to the public regarding the environmental impacts of building products and in particular their climate impacts. They inform the environmental evaluation of building products for building certification schemes such as LEED, Green Star, and WELL.


 What are the benefits of an EPD?&nbsp; 
 An EPD can contribute to the achievement of credit points under leading green building rating schemes, including Green Building Council of Australia’s Green Star Program, which helps buildings achieve a Green Star rating.

Wool carpet is a natural insulator, helping to keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer. Because of wool’s natural inbuilt crimp, air is retained in millions of tiny pockets which provide an insulating effect, thus creating a comfortable environment.

The unique properties of wool react to changes in temperature, absorbing and desorbing significant quantities of moisture from the air to control humidity. In cold, damp conditions (high relative humidity) moisture is absorbed by wool and heat is given off. In warm dry conditions, moisture is released by wool, resulting in a cooling effect.

Thermal Insulation and Humidity Control

Wool absorbs moisture in the air and controls humidity for a comfortable environment, making it cooler in summer and warmer in winter.

Mid-range hard flooring options include extra scratch resistant flooring, dent resistant flooring, engineered flooring that looks just like real timber, water resistant flooring and more. Mid priced carpets and hard floors are most often used to add value to owner-occupied homes and higher-end investment properties. They really hit the sweet spot for designer carpet boasting some of the best features, with incredible value.

The wear layer is a clear coating that helps to maintain the original appearance of your floor, protecting against scratches and general wear and tear. It also makes your floor easier to clean and maintain.

The thickness of wear layers is measured in millimetres, and indicates the level of protection. A commercial grade 0.55mm wear layer can withstand extra heavy traffic perfect for all areas of a busy home and is also suitable for most commercial applications.

 The International Living Future Institute (ILFI), and local affiliate the Living Future Institute of Australia (LFIA), are organisations committed to driving sustainable change in the Australian Built environment through the development of leading edge programs, that are designed to radically change our approach to building and construction.


 Predicated on creating a healthier built environment, the Declare® program delivers clear, unambiguous information about building material specifications. Participating manufacturers are required to disclose a Product’s entire constituent chemical composition to a threshold of 100-parts-per-million; essentially creating a ‘nutrition’ label of ingredients.

 Each Declare® label is compared against a list of worst-inclass materials, better known as the Red List. Chemicals on the Red List can pose an increased risk of:

What Does PEFC Do? 
The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is a leading international non-profit organisation whose mission is to promote sustainable forest management through independent third-party accreditation. Taking local conditions and priorities into consideration, PEFC works to protect forests both locally and globally, forming partnerships with multiple stakeholders around the world to boost their collective impact.

Through the PEFC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification, Responsible Wood (the national governing body for PEFC in Australia) promote best practice throughout the entire supply chain to make certain all products from forests are produced to the highest ecological, cultural, ethical and environmental standards. This allows us to actively track every log from forest to floor, guaranteeing that the PEFC certified timber in these products has been responsibly harvested through PEFC. A waterproof coating is applied during the manufacturing process to create a sealed, water-resistant surface layer. This specialised coating forms a protective barrier over the product, preventing moisture from penetrating the surface and helping to guard against spills, stains and everyday water exposure.

All our wool carpets have insect resistant treatments applied during manufacture. 

The treatment does not stop insects from entering your home and moths/ beetles can build up an immunity and in some areas have developed a tolerance to treatments. The insect deterrent treatment is embedded in the carpet fibre and needs to be ingested by the insect to have an effect and stop further spreading – such that some fibre loss may occur and good housekeeping is essential.

What is an EPD?
 
EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) is a multipage document describing the environmental impacts – in particular climate impacts – of a product based on a life cycle assessment (LCA). It is created by reference to a LCA based on the manufacturer’s processes for sourcing raw materials, manufacturing, transportation, use and disposal of the product, using internationally recognised standards like ISO 14025 and EN 15804. After a rigorous independent review process of the data, methods and conclusions, the EPD is submitted to a program operator for publication. As products and manufacturing processes evolve, the EPD is updated, usually every 5 years, for significant changes.&lt;/pr&gt;

A key component of a published EPD is the global warming potential (GWP) figure, expressed in kilograms of carbon dioxide equivalent per unit (meter squared for flooring) or kg CO2-e / m2. A lower GWP figures means that the life cycle of the product, including its manufacture, have a lower contribution to global warming; whereas a high GWP figure means a greater contribution to global warming.


For building products such as flooring, there is often a focus on the ‘embodied carbon’ in a product represented by the ‘A1 – A3’ component of the total GWP figure, being the greenhouse gas emissions associated with raw materials, transport and manufacturing.


An EPD serves to provide valuable transparency to the public regarding the environmental impacts of building products and in particular their climate impacts. They inform the environmental evaluation of building products for building certification schemes such as LEED, Green Star, and WELL.


What are the benefits of an EPD?
 
An EPD can contribute to the achievement of credit points under leading green building rating schemes, including Green Building Council of Australia’s Green Star Program, which helps buildings achieve a Green Star rating.

As a prerequisite for the ECS program, carpet manufacturers must comply with the Code of Practice for Environmental Management (including performance criteria for raw materials, the manufacturing process, the carpet during its use and at the end of its life).

ECS Level 4+ is the highest standard within the ECS program. This stringent program is a Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) approved third party, with ECS Level 4+ certification providing at least a minimum of 12 Green Star points.
